$100,000 CDN CASH DONATION FOR AID SUPPLIES GOING TO THE RELIEF EFFORTS IN ATTAWAPISKAT, ONTARIO

Toronto, ON – January 1, 2012: On Wednesday, January 4th, the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (O.V.E.R.T) will deploy a 4 member relief team to Attawapiskat, ON to provide much needed aid to the victims of the recent disaster where members of the community have been forced from their homes and are living in shelters as a result.

Due to a number of issues the residents of Attawapiskat are without clean drinking water and those living in shelters are beginning to suffer from medical problems related to these conditions. Upon hearing of the crisis the members of the Baagwatting Community Association generously pledged $100,000 to aid the people in Attawapiskat.

The O.V.E.R.T. team deploying will consists of one Durham Regional Police Officer, Two Paramedics, one from Durham Region EMS and one from Toronto EMS, and a Water Technician will visit the affected areas to distribute aid donations and educate the residence on the water units.

DONATIONS INCLUDE:
- 250 Water Purification systems with the capacity of providing 4,000,000 litres of clean driving water per filter
- Aqua tabs-sufficient to clean 10,000,000 litres of water
- 300 Adult and Childrens' hygiene kits
- Medical items to address current conditions
- 300 sets Thermal clothing

The generous donation of $100,000 to OVERT towards the relief work in Attawapiskat has been provided by the Baagwating board of the Blue Heron Casino, who are part of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nations.
