History
Following a high profiled incident in 1991, research and development began into the OVERT program. The goal was to create a better way to train and integrate community volunteers.
Following a period of research and development, OVERT went operational in 1996. Since that time organization has assisted over fifty agencies within Ontario, and has been deployed internationally during major disasters.

Initially developed with Ground Search and Rescue in mind, OVERT has evolved the ability to respond to a diverse range of situations – floods, fires, evacuations, fast water search operations, technical rescue, traffic control, extreme heat and cold alerts, live and deceased person searches.
