Field Kit Guidelines
Members of the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team respond to calls for assistance during all matters of weather conditions. As such our members have to be prepared to operate in any given weather. The only weather OVERT will not operate in is active lightning.
Summer Kit Minimum Requirements
-OVERT uniform (BDU top and pants, Hat, Black or navy blue under shirt)
-Min 8" good quality leather boots (Black).
-Rain gear
-Extra clothing, socks, shirts, underwear, boots.
-Leather gloves
-Flash light
-Whistle
-Compass
-Folding Knife
-Tent pegs
-Water
-Snacks
Winter kit Minimum Requirements (Additional items on top of the summer kit)
-Fleece/Wool sweater
-OVERT winter jacket
-Warm mitts or leather gloves (2 pair)
-Toque (2)
-Long under wear
-Undershirt (ie. coolmax) (2)
-Wool socks (2 pair)
-Balaclava
-OVERT turtle neck
*The key is to layer clothing in the winter.
Layering in the field.
1st layer against the skin - Wicking layer (eg, coolmax)
2nd layer- Light insulating layer (eg, Wool/Polyester)
3rd layer- Heavy Insulating layer (eg, Wool, Fleece)
Final layer- Outer layer, wind and water proof (eg, Goretex)
